Manchester a Spontaneous trip to a local city to play crazy golf and drink beer. We decided last minute to go and get some city break practice before heading to Amsterdam next week and thought Manchester would fit the bill. We were actually celebrating an anniversary so we booked the Mecure Manchester Central and we received a free upgrade to the Manchester Suite. The Manchester Suite was on the 14th floor, and had the usual bathroom facilities but with the added dressing gown and slippers, a lounge and it had a four poster bed. Whilst getting ready to go out we tested out room service and ordered a quick drink to the room, a nice Corona and a Pinkster Gin and Tonic We then went down to the hotel bar and had our first pint overlooking picadddily gardens in the hotels bar Level 3. We then made the short walk to Printworkers and enjoyed a beer At Waxy O’Connor’s. A very trendy bar that has several good pints available. A good solid selection and we went for San Miguel. The bar is very quirky and several spiralling staircases to navigate your way around. As it was a Sunday evening there was a some live music on which made for good background music.

There are several good places to eat in Manchester especially around the PrintWorks area, we ventured over the road to the Corn Exchange where there are a few different eatery’s. We chose Pizza Express (we had a voucher from Christmas). pizza and peroni nothing more to add to that. Good pizza and the perfect pre match beer, we must have been hungry as we where fed and watered quickly and had to make a quick pub stop before golf. Lola lo a quirky bar in Deansgate that’s was doing two for one on cocktails, shame that didn’t extend to peroni. After having a swift few in Lola’s it was off to Junk yard golf. The overall experience was fun but also very hard after a few beers! There are 3 courses to choose from, the one we chose started by having to go down a slide! All drinks are served in plastic cups, which wasn’t great. However, understandable and fits in with the “junkyard” theme.... the holes were very quick and easy to get round but also a lot fun! The best one is playing through the old Only Fools and Horses van!

Atlas Gin bar was calling us next, a massive variety of 380 gins! So I had a Peroni first before switching to a G and T. Obviously the Gin selection was huge and couldn’t all be got through so I Opted for Ragnorak Swedish Gin. Hilton Hotels Cloud 23 Bar was next in store for us! We had to go up there and sample a drink before heading home. The bar is quite expensive however, you don’t pay to get up which is very good. I was on the gin at this point so it was Gin Mare and Tonic before climbing into bed soon after.

The next day was the National football Museum and it was great! We’re off to Amsterdam soon (another blog to come) and the flight times mean I won’t get to go to Ajax v Den Haag so I used this as a bargaining chip. The museum hosted several great pictures, facts and quotes. The best one pictured below by a player that scored 1281 career goals.

After the museum it was time to head back to our car and drive home. A wonderful trip... so long Manchester!
