Cornwall

Cornwall, a fantastic place for you and all the family. Well known for its coastline, beaches, gardens and its award winning restaurants you won't be disappointed. Whether you go for a short break or a couple of weeks, camping, glamping or staying in hotels Cornwall makes a great place to visit. Whilst in Cornwall we decided to take in some of the local walks, firstly the walk from Botallack Mines to Cape Cornwall. This walk is well known for its Copper and Tin mines. A fantastic walk and some great sea views!

The six mile circular walk around St Anthony's Head was brilliant! To get there we had to take the ferry from St Mawes to Place........ when we say ferry the picture below shows you what we really mean.

The small twelve seater boat was good fun and added an extra element of excitement. We found some great places to eat and we can't possibly list them all, but we will take you through the best ones (in our opinion). Pre trip we were looking forward to trying Korev, you can buy bottles of it all over the country but trying it on draught in Cornwall will always be a treat and a great way to sample it for the first time.

So we were in luck when we got to the Harbour Fish and Chips Café, in St Ives. We had fish, chips and mushy peas, with a lovely cold refreshing pint of Korev. The wait was worth it, sitting back after a long walk with a cold pint of lager made the days efforts seem distant.

After food we nipped into John's Wine and Spirit Shop. We had to take a few bottles of Cornish Gin, Lager and Ale back for the family at home. The shop is on Fore Street not far from  the chippy. We also enjoyed two more meals at the Driftwood and Restaurant Nathan Outlaw with an impressive three Michelin Stars between them. Very strangely for the beer bucket list we opted for the wine flights both nights. The Driftwood was first and with food at this standard we decided to have the tasting menu instead of A La Carte. The stand out course was the forty day old filet of ruby red beef cooked over coals, smoked bone marrow with garlic and spinach and followed by a simply stunning desert called "thunder and lightning".

Restaurant Nathan Outlaw was outstanding, you could only have a tasting menu but you won't be disappointed. The restaurant produces some world class fish dishes and it soon becomes apparent why it has two Michelin stars.

The Lobster dish was fantastic and the picture below shows why!

Finally, we had another enjoyable walk from Porth to Porthcurnick beach where we found the "Hidden Hut". This is a unique cafe on the costal path where you can enjoy seasonal lunches and hot pasties that we fully recommend.

Before leaving Cornwall we went to Rojano's in the Square. A family Italian restaurant in Padstow owned by celebrity chef Paul Ainsworth. When arriving after a hard days walking a Korev was in order, until we saw, Sharps Cornish Pilsner in the fridge. This was just perfect in the sunshine of Padstow and brought a close on another great adventure.
