Cape Verde - Strella

META DATA DATA

StartFragmentStrella is the main beer of Cape Verde. Cape Verde, or Cabo Verde, is made up of a group of 10 islands off the northwest coast of Africa. It’s known for its Creole Portuguese-African culture, traditional music and golden beaches. Recently on holiday in Boa Vista (one of the islands that make up Cape Verde) I was lucky enough to discover and try Strella for the first time.. and many more times throughout the week! Whilst it isn't the strongest beer I've ever had, it was the perfect beer to sit back and relax with in the afternoon sun (and in the evenings) in some stunning and unique locations. I stayed in the lovely Riu Touareg hotel, which has several bars and restaurants all serving Strella. The hotel also has an amazing infinity pool which you can sit in (beer in hand was my preferred way) and look out over the beach, and watch the 5ft high waves crashing on to the shore.. perfect! Boa Vista is a small island and has a population of around 15,000 people and plenty of goats! However it does play host to a quite an amazing bar called Morabeza!

On driving to the bar from our hotel, we drove through a small village near Rabil, and i realised how lucky I am as we passed by a football pitch that has no grass and youngsters playing barefoot in the street.

This bar is quite simply stunning, located on the beach front and with sand rather than flooring it has a real beach shack feeling.

The bar is not far from Sal Rai, Boa Vistas capital and the bar offers different theme nights such as sunset parties, reggae nights & African shows. All with a lovely meal of steak, chicken, fish or lobster washed down with a cocktail or strella or two! The bar is owned by ex Italian Professional footballer Marco who played for Brescia. You can rest your beer in the sand and look out towards the sea as the sunsets or watch some traditional dancing and fire eating.

This is quite easily the best bar I've ever been too (yet), and there still many more that I want to do.... I'm still to drink a pint of Brahma in Brazil or visit the worlds largest infinity pool in Singapore with a nice bottle of Tiger! But this bar is well worth traveling to Cape Verde for alone!
