Newcastle

Haway, just got back from a night away

up in the toon!

We arrived Sunday afternoon. Staying at the Malmaison on the Quayside. Lovely location and arrived to the Sunday markets full of local produce and trinkets and a great selection of food stalls. Fuming we'd stopped off at scotch corner on the way up and had Greggs there as some great stalls that all looked and smelt delicious.

Shame the weather wasn't great or the "quayside seaside" would be a great little spot to catch some rays and enjoy a drink! Instead we had a few pints of extra cold Heineken in the Slug and Lettuce.

After relaxing and getting ready to go out.. and enjoying a Chang in the bath out of the mini bar we headed up to St James park, home to Newcastle united and Sherears bar... which is now called nine bar! A little quiet as it was Sunday night and raining but I bet it is rocking on a Saturday afternoon on match day! Again a few pints of Coors Light sampled and then we headed back into town.

Tea at Turtle Bay.. Caribbean food and plenty of rum and Red Stripe to go round! You'll find these located round the country. If you get chance to go... go! We had the just jerk platter to start, then the street shack burger and the Caribbean browned chicken to follow! Delicious.

We then went into the Gate cinema complex which has several bars and restaurants and a casino for those feeling lucky!

After having a few drinks round there we headed back down to the quayside, and enjoyed a nice cold pint of Peroni at Pitcher and Piano whilst watching the millennium bridge change colour!

We later returned to the Malmaison and after enjoying our complementary drinks as we were staying on the bubbles bed and breakfast deal (I swapped my bubbles for beer) and a few more after that, bed was calling! And it was the comfiest bed I've slept in recently!

Breakfast was coninental with the option to upgrade to a cooked breakfast, which of corse we did and enjoyed a great full english breakfast and eggs benedict! It was all washed down with a cup of tea and some OJ!

All in all a great last minute night away and will definitely be back to sample the food on the market and some more beers in some great locations and hopefully better weather!
